Balled and Burlapped Trees

B and B trees, otherwise known as balled and burlapped trees, is the process and care taken when removing a live tree from the ground in preparation for transportation and planting in a new location. A tree that is properly balled and burlapped will have a much greater chance of survival after being transported and installed than one that has not been balled and burlapped.

What is Balled?

Balled refers to the spherical structure of the root ball which is dug out of the ground. We take care to keep as much of the main root structure as possible, as well as conserving all of the surrounding dirt that the tree has grown in. In a sense, it’s almost like blindfolding the tree so it doesn’t really know that it has been dug up and removed from the ground.

What is Burlapped?

Burlapped refers to the burlap sack that is placed around the root ball after it is dug up.The burlap is gently secured around the ball of roots and dirt to protect them during transportation. We also water our burlapped trees before delivery to keep them moist and happy before they get to their new home. We use high quality biodegradable burlap and eco-friendly rope / twine to tie them which gives the tree the best chance to survive and thrive after planting.

  Joe and his crew just finished a four tree project and it turned out better than I could have ever wished for. We met Joe at his farm and his selection of trees and knowledge of trees is outstanding. He took time to drive us around explaining different trees and what would work best for us. When it came time to plant them, Joe was on site and helped us finalize the best location for them which really helped. If you need any trees, don't hesitate to call them.   I bought a big Cedar Elm from them, had it delivered, and installed in the spring. It only took about 1-2 hours to complete the installation. The tree looks great in the front yard. I've had no issues with it and it's been so rainy I have not needed to water much. Would recommend, very professional. 👍 Edit: If you plan to visit, make sure to map out directions before you go. The GPS can be spotty out there.

  Joe and his entire team is amazing to work with! Beautiful location, a ton of amazing healthy trees, top quality delivery and planting. I wish I had a bigger lot to get more trees from them!   If you are looking for trees, you can't go wrong with TxGrownTrees in Mexia! David and Joe and their crew are excellent. We were looking for a nice Bald Cypress tree and got one and a beautiful Crepe Myrtle! Joe spent a lot of time showing us everything they had on Saturday. On Tuesday morning they delivered our choices and did such a great job planting them. Not only was the pricing very competitive and the  customer service top notch, but we feel that we have made new friends as well! Give them a call - you won't be disappointed.

  We visited Texas Grown Tree Farm. Joe took the time to take us around to view all the trees and we picked out the ones we wanted.  We purchased 5 trees that day.  We scheduled a time for our trees to be delivered and planted.  Joe was prompt and made sure we had our trees before Thanksgiving.  Joe's crew arrived and the planting went as scheduled and the trees look good.  Joe has a 1 year warranty on his trees, which is an awesome benefit. At that time we discussed transplanting 2 trees from our pasture to our yard closer to our house.  He made plans to move them for us, hopefully it will be done within a couple of weeks. G. Hall

  We are so glad to have found Texas Grown Tree Farm!! After previous go-rounds with other tree/landscape companies here in Central Texas, we believed we were destined to have the ugliest trees and lawn in our neighborhood. Nothing looked good and everything started dying as soon as it was installed. Fortunately we happened upon Texas Grown and Joe!!! He answered all our questions, gave us some excellent advice, and promised that we'd be very happy once the job was finished. When we told him we were scheduled to be out of the country for 6 weeks, he said it was no problem and that he would see to everything! We were nervous while we were away that we'd come home to another disappointment, but far from it!! When we pulled into the driveway, we saw our freshly sod and leveled Bermuda grass lawn and the three Japanese Pistache trees we had ordered -- all looking healthy and fantastic! And this in the middle of a drought with watering restrictions! Everything that Joe promised - and more - greeted us, including the sprinkler system having been adjusted to meet the City's restrictions! We couldn't be happier with Texas Grown - and Joe and his team - so much so that we've arranged for him/his team to do some other installations for us!!   Joe was excellent about taking us around the tree farm and helping us choose trees. They were friendly, professional, and very knowledgable. Joe gave us a lot of 'helpful hints', too! The team came and planted all seven trees and did a great job in the sweltering heat. We are very pleased.
