B and B trees, otherwise known as balled and burlapped trees, is the process and care taken when removing a live tree from the ground in preparation for transportation and planting in a new location. A tree that is properly balled and burlapped will have a much greater chance of survival after being transported and installed than one that has not been balled and burlapped.
Balled refers to the spherical structure of the root ball which is dug out of the ground. We take care to keep as much of the main root structure as possible, as well as conserving all of the surrounding dirt that the tree has grown in. In a sense, it's almost like blindfolding the tree so it doesn't really know that it has been dug up and removed from the ground.
Burlapped refers to the burlap sack that is placed around the root ball after it is dug up.The burlap is gently secured around the ball of roots and dirt to protect them during transportation. We also water our burlapped trees before delivery to keep them moist and happy before they get to their new home. We use high quality biodegradable burlap and eco-friendly rope / twine to tie them which gives the tree the best chance to survive and thrive after planting.
